The Coordinator of Advertising Production will manage all print, radio, and direct mail advertising and will seek out and coordinate promotional opportunities for the Toronto Symphony under the direction of the Director of Sales. This position will provide on-going organization and support to the sales and advertising area of the TSO.
Major Accountabilities/Duties/Responsibilities
- Work with Director of Sales to create and manage all advertising campaigns, including print, radio, direct mail, digital, indoor, and outdoor.
- Liaise with suppliers, including ad reps, designers, printers, mail houses, and distributors to assure timeliness and quality in all advertising efforts.
- Manage production and distribution of marketing materials, including print and digital ads, 3-sheets and electronic signage at venue, flyers, posters, direct mail pieces and other collateral.
- Write and edit advertising, brochure, email copy.
- Work with designers to follow TSO’s branding guidelines and identity standards when creating all materials.
- Liaise internally with artistic and development departments to acquire content and to ensure accuracy of copy and proper recognition of sponsors and donors.
- Proactively seek promotional opportunities for the TSO under the guidance of the Director of Sales.
- Manage the fulfillment and maximize the value of existing promotions.
- Assist the Director in assessing the success of past and potential promotions/advertising campaigns.
- Maintain accurate budgets for various advertising accounts.
- Process and track advertising invoices for payment.
- Attend and participate in weekly departmental meetings.
- Regular concert duty at TSO performances.
- Other support duties as assigned.
Experience & Qualifications
- Post secondary degree in marketing, sales, advertising or related field.
- 2-4 years experience in advertising and print production
- Superior organization and project management skills
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently within a fast-paced, goal oriented environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team member.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Superior, accurate, and creative copywriting skills.
- Adaptable to flexible work hours including some evenings and weekends.
- Knowledge of classical music industry preferred.

Job Description (Scope of the Position)
The Toronto Symphony Orchestra is looking for an organized, enthusiastic, detail-oriented Marketing & Communications Intern for a four month term. This is an entry level internship opportunity for someone looking to gain experience in arts administration, marketing and public relations.
The Marketing & Communications Intern will be responsible for providing a range of administrative and general assistance related to the department’s marketing efforts and ongoing programmes. The successful candidate can expect an excellent opportunity assisting in marketing campaigns, promotions, media relations and events.
A commitment of 28 hours per week for 4 months is required, from July 2013 - November 2013 or longer if desired.
Major Accountabilities/Duties/Responsibilities
- Research promotional opportunities with other organizations
- Build and maintain contact lists to support ticket sales and publicity efforts
- Assist in the distribution of marketing materials and track inventory
- Support general activities of the marketing department, including research, assisting with mailings and administrative tasks as required
- Assist in researching and compiling content for social media posts
- Track social media activity and monitor trends (including media)
- Assist the department in the planning and execution of marketing events
- Assist in preparation and distribution of marketing materials
- Maintain and update the media database, media quote sheet and editorial calendars
- Assist with finding and circulating daily press clippings and prepare final clippings reports
- Research niche/new media, keep up-to-date on trends in media
- Assemble basic graphics to accompany some social media content
- Interact with various internal and external stakeholders and attend departmental meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Experience & Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have an understanding of classical music and an interest in arts marketing. We are looking for someone who is currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a degree in arts administration, marketing, public relations, music, or a related field. This person must possess excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with many groups including internal staff, outside organizations, and vendors. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point) is required.

- Time management skills and ability to multi-task
- Demonstrated attention to detail and research abilities
- Interest in and eagerness to work within an arts not-for-profit organization
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills
- Knowledge of social media platforms: Reddit, Twitter, Google+ & Facebook
- Basic working knowledge of Photoshop an asset but not required
