A Night of Roaring Revelry & Mystery

The TSVC Murder Mystery Speakeasy
June 27, 2024

A time machine transported guests back to the Roaring Twenties as the Toronto Symphony Volunteer Committee (TSVC) Murder Mystery Speakeasy unfolded with all the flair and glamour of a bygone era. On May 27, 2024, guests filed into St. Lawrence Hall, serenaded by TSO musicians Leslie Dawn Knowles and Mark Tetreault alongside the ever-talented pianist Ron Sellwood, whose melodies brought to life the jazzy spirit of the 1920s. The hall’s grand ballroom, bejewelled with crystal chandeliers and sumptuous 1920s decor, provided a breathtaking backdrop for the evening’s festivities.

Dressed to the nines in period attire, attendees were greeted with the signature cocktail of the evening—the infamous Bellini—setting the stage for an unforgettable night. Prosecco and a variety of delectable hors d’oeuvres followed, and smiling waiters ensured that no wine glass remained empty, moving with the precision of a well-rehearsed orchestra.

As the evening progressed, intrigue filled the air: Actors seamlessly blended into the crowd, dropping cryptic clues about a sinister whodunit. The plot thickened as Mr. Jack Walker was found stabbed with scissors after acquiring a historic building and soliciting further investment. The drama escalated when Jack’s twin brother from Alabama, Billy Bob Walker, made a dramatic entrance, asserting his claim to the property. Suspicions flew—was it Billy Bob, the enigmatic twin? Mrs. Walker, with an eye on the insurance money? Or Sandy Beach, the building’s general manager? In a thrilling twist, it was revealed to be none other than Dan, the jealous husband with the black eye who committed the murder!

The evening concluded with a vibrant conga line, and other dances plucked straight from the pages of The Great Gatsby. Young and old alike gleefully cut a rug, united by the magic of the era.

Until next year, when the TSVC unravels another thrilling mystery from another era. Mark your calendars—you won’t want to miss it!
