NACO + OSQ: Two Orchestras, One Symphony
Sat, Mar 2, 2024The month of March is always a mixture of contrasting colours, as the lily-white final days of winter collide with the first hopeful hints of spring. While this collision often results in overcast days and muddy sidewalks, we’re starting March off with a colourful mixture of our own. On March 2, the National Arts Centre Orchestra (NACO) and Orchestre symphonique de Québec (OSQ) will come together to present Two Orchestras, One Symphony. This musical melange features two of Canada’s most celebrated orchestras, weaving their talents to deliver a mixed program of Canadian composers (Hétu, Murphy), performers (Kevin Chan), and not-so-hidden gems of the classical canon (Saint-Saëns’s Piano Concerto No.2). Just as we can’t wait for spring to arrive, we also couldn’t wait till March to find out more about this uniquely dynamic program. As a part of our ongoing Symphony City series, we welcomed two of the creative forces behind this orchestral exchange that will bring the NACO and OSQ to Roy Thomson Hall: TSO Music Director Gustavo Gimeno and NACO Music Director Alexander Shelley.
