Meet the Orchestra: Clare Semes
Clare Semes, one of the TSO’s newly appointed Associate Concertmasters, has been a familiar face since she joined the orchestra six years ago. Originally from the Philadelphia area, Clare received her Bachelor and Masters of Music degrees from The Juilliard School where she studied with Donald Weilerstein, Ronald Copes, and Laurie Smukler. She assumed her new role at the onset of the 23/24 season, and brings to it an intimate understanding and appreciation for Toronto’s orchestra.
What does an Associate Concertmaster do? What were her first thoughts upon hearing the announcement of her new role? What does it mean to be achieving this position at the TSO? These are the burning questions she answers during our Symphony City spotlight interview, along with a closer look at her cherished violin.
