Security Screening & Bag Check Information

Security Screening & Bag Check Information

Roy Thomson Hall and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra are committed to the safety and well-being of all guests and patrons and aim to provide a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable concert experience.

As of the 2024/25 season, Roy Thomson Hall has introduced a new entry process, utilizing walk-through security scanners.

The security walk-through screener is a modern, touchless security screening system designed to enhance safety and improve the patron experience. It allows quicker, more efficient entry by automatically scanning for prohibited items while allowing non-threatening personal belongings, like keys or phones, to pass through without issue.

The walk-through security screener is considered safe. It uses low-frequency or non-ionizing technology that doesn’t emit harmful radiation, making it suitable for all individuals, including those with medical devices or pregnant women.

Bag & Purse Search & Guidelines

All patrons entering Roy Thomson Hall will be subject to security screening and/or bag/purse search.

For everyone's safety, security, and enjoyment, Roy Thomson Hall asks that you only bring small bags/purses/briefcases not exceeding 14x14x6 inches (35.5x35.5cx15 centimetres) so that security staff can screen and welcome patrons into the event safely and efficiently. Any purses or bags larger than 14” X 14” X 6” will not be permitted into the venue.

The limit on bag sizes is in place to ensure a safer environment and to facilitate quicker entry. By restricting bag sizes, security personnel can more easily and efficiently inspect the contents of each bag. Additionally, larger bags can pose tripping hazards, especially during emergencies.

Outside Beverages & Food

Outside beverages and food items are prohibited inside Roy Thomson Hall. Please be advised that unopened water bottles and empty beverage containers are permitted within RTH. Opened containers must be emptied before entering the venue.

Outside beverages are not permitted inside Roy Thomson Hall as they could jeopardize their liquor license, and due to health and safety reasons, staff cannot verify its contents. However, there are water fountains where patrons can refill their containers once they are inside.

Outside food is not permitted inside the venue to prevent spills and stains in the lobbies and auditorium, which can increase cleaning costs and labour. Keeping food outside helps maintain a clean and pleasant environment for all patrons.

Exceptions

An exception will be made for declared beverages, food items, and bags necessary for accessibility or medical reasons, provided they undergo proper inspection. Guests should be prepared to present such items to staff upon entry for approval. You may share your exception by contacting Patron Services before your performance or informing the Security Manager when you arrive.

Musical instruments are permitted on site and are subject to search upon entry.

For more information, you may email Roy Thomson Hall at contactus@mh-rth.com.
